H.E.R. Faith Fellowship (Heart Education & Risk-reduction), funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Public Health, Office on Women's Health, is a national faith-based cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk-reduction program for minority women. The Research Center has chosen ten minority faith sites across the country and identified a Faith Site Leader (FSL) and Faith Site Leader Assistant (FSLA) who will coordinate this program at their site. The program will consist of:
  • Educational modules on each of the risk factors for CVD featuring expert guest speakers. Each participant will receive supplemental educational materials that the Research Center has developed for that specific topic. Materials will be in both English and Spanish.
  • Interactive Small Group Discussion Activities (SGDA). Materials will be in both English and Spanish.
  • Physical Activity modules, which will consist of various exercise videos and a manual for the participants.
Also included in this program will be health screenings at three points during the program, which will include cholesterol and glucose finger stick tests; Health Status Reports sent to the participants' homes with the health screening results (which will also be color-coded so participants can track their progress/set-backs); a health and wellness survey that will also be done by the participants at three points during the program; a program-specific website for participants, FSL/ FSLA; newsletters; journals; physical activity and nutrition logs; a site-specific resource directory that the participants will help compile; an incentive donation system (for both faith sites and for participants); and a host of other materials and tools.

This comprehensive program is being offered to women at faith sites to we can work together to build healthy bodies, minds, and spirits!
